Developer Curve Digital has decided to unleash and expand the release of Stealth Inc 2:  A Game of Clones, their sequel to the surprisingly good Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark, as it is no longer a Wii U exclusive. Is the game worthy of your time, or is it best left to linger in the shadows?

Read our review to find out.

Stealth Inc 2:  A Game of Clones is a 2D platform puzzler that will have you using trial-and-error, with error generally resulting in your death, to work your way through a whole bunch of levels designed to not only make you think, but to have quick reflexes at times as well.

In Stealth Inc 2:  A Game of Clones you play as a clone trying to escape a sinister testing facility controlled during the night by a more than slightly obsessed Senior Quality Assurance Manager, Malcom Alderman. Your mission is not just to escape, but also to rescue all of the other clones trapped in the facility as well.

For fans of the series, you’ll notice a few changes to the way the game initially has you selecting the level to play. The traditional level select doesn’t become available until after you work your way through a Metroidvania style overworld or hub type system, discovering the levels while you traverse through the facility, unlocking and adding each level to the quick select menu as you find them. This myriad of mazes expands as you finish each actual level, and luckily there’s a quick map to help you navigate, as you could get lost pretty easily.

Developer Curve Digital wasn’t content with just creating more puzzling levels, they added a new depth by creating gadgets that you’ll have to unlock and master in order to successfully navigate each level. From the always useful Inflate-a-Mate to homicidal cloning tools like the Me Too, these new gadgets are well thought out and make levels twice as deadly. There were a few levels that required dying several times just to know what your next move would be, and that, at times, felt a little unfair. Hoping for a checkpoint while rapidly moving through an area that is constantly changing can start to be a little monotonous, but luckily these types of areas are few and far between.

The graphics for the game are top notch for a 2D platformer. Cut scenes are comic book style and are entertaining to read and look at. Each level is well designed with a level of detail that is impressive. The game ran smooth with no hiccups or freezes and we played over ten hours with no issues on all three PlayStation platforms. For a pick-up-and-play game on the Vita, Stealth Inc 2:  A Game of Clones felt right at home on the powerful little hand held and was just as much fun as if we were playing on the PS3 or PS4.

For those of you out there that don’t want to stick to being a cookie cutter copy of every other clone in the game, there are collectibles lying around that will allow our little buddy to play dress-up and gain a uniqueness all his own. There are a bunch of hats and outfits to be found that can be changed out anytime you wish, so there’s no need to abandon your personality and look just like the status quo.

Once you’ve completed each level, your completion time will be added to the overall leaderboards and you can see how you stack up against the masses of the world. getting a game before its actual release date is a great way to land yourself the top spot, and we made the top ten more than a few times. Once the game is unleashed upon the world, though, I doubt if any of our times will stay there.

Once you’ve completed the game, there’s no need for the fun to end as you’ll be able to create your own levels or download levels created by other folks around the world. This is probably one of the best improvements that the developer could have added. Spending hours creating a level, to only have it sit there unplayed on your machine of choice, really gave you no incentive to ever actually create said level.

Stealth gameplay has been around a long time and it’s obvious the folks at Curve Digital know how to create a great entry into that genre.
