Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo has made it to a console near you. Should you race out and get it, or just leave it by the roadside?

Developer Milestone should know its way around the video game world of the World Rally Championship, seeing as how they have created multiple titles in the series and have had decent success with them. They are also well known for their motorcycle titles, so this is a developer that knows and understands racing titles. This title is their first with input from one of the rally greats in Sébastien Loeb, and it’s a partnership that pays off.

Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo gives you a wide variety of race types to take-on, from single-stage to rally cross to Pike’s Peak, and keeps you moving through a career mode that will see you climbing up the world rankings. The great racing cars aren’t cheap, so you may have to rent a few before you can plop down half a million on a souped up Subaru or Ford, but even the rentals are well equipped and capable of competing, so don’t fret.

The actual handling of the cars in the game can be hit-or-miss depending on your skill level and your difficulty settings. Playing on the Rookie setting gives the game an almost arcade feel but, if you set it to Pro, it can be an unforgiving sim that will have you lying in a ditch in no time. Experienced racers that played WRC 5 will have an immediate advantage as the game handles very similarly. Whatever control scheme you go for, the cars may seem a little heavy and mudded down at times, while feeling a little too light and perky at other times, but overall the game’s driving physics is pretty spot on.

The graphics for the game are pretty spectacular on the PS4 and the cars look like they are right off of the WRC lot. The level of detail, shading, reflections, and lighting on the cars exteriors and interiors are nicely done. Attention to detail is key and the developer understood that. Track replication and level of detail is also spot-on. The game features 300 Kilometers of real roads and has eight different rallies, sixty four special stages, five Rallycross circuits, and the Official Pikes Peak Hill Climb track. Toss in the sixteen car manufacturers and fifty eight car models and you have quite a bit of fun ready and waiting.

Developer Milestone has a long history with racing titles, and with the WRC series in general. All of this history has went a long ways in helping them create a decent racing game in Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo that should keep enthusiasts happy, while bringing in some new fans as well.
